Texture and Exterior Repaired Panels

Texture can be applied as an aerosol or from a spray gun. The size and type of texture is affected by air pressure and the distance from the repair area. The application may also be dry sprayed to allow maximum grain affect. Although some textures are considered groundcoats , they can also be used as a topcoat.

Textured Exterior Repaired Panel

Note: Refer to "Refinish Repaired Existing/Recycled Panel" and "Refinish New/Recycled Undamaged Panel" for a full description of steps.

1. Clean/Solvent Wash

2. Dust or Water Removal with Air

3. Scuff Pad Panel

4. Final Solvent Wash

5. Tack Wipe

6. Apply Texture to Repair area (multiple coats may be required)

After the texture has dried, light sanding or scuffing to remove high spots may be required to blend the material in to the existing finish. The panel is then top-coated with proper refinish materials. If proper texture cannot be established into the existing finish and there are no natural break lines, it should be applied to the entire panel.

When texturing interior panels, most steps and procedures are the same as used on an exterior panel. Other types of cleaners may be required depending on type of material, construction and coating. Interior panels may require finer textures than exterior panels.
