General Motors
All G.M. vehicles were equipped with a metal "Body Number Plate" riveted near the top horizontal surface of the firewall panel. A few vehicles, (specifically the Buick Skylark 1980-85, Cadillac Seville 1980-85, Chevrolet Citation 1980-85, Oldsmobile Omega 1980-84 and the Pontiac Phoenix 1980-84) have the Body Number Plate riveted in a vertical position on the firewall. Specific right or left locations may vary by model and producing plant. Since 1985 model production, individual vehicles may or may not be equipped with the "Body Number Plate". This plate details all installed vehicle options, as well as paint number codes. If so equipped, this plate may be used for paint color identification, otherwise use the "Service Parts Identification" label.
All G.M. vehicles have been equipped with a "Service Parts Identification" Label, which identifies all installed Regular Production Options, as well as paint color codes and paint type. This self-adhesive label is located in a specific location for each model, and must be consulted for paint and option codes in the absence of the "Body Number Plate." The following chart identifies specific "Service Parts Identification" label locations. Some vehicles may be equipped with the "Service Parts Identification" label prior to the 1985 models, since specific phase-in dates were determined on an individual basis, plant by plant. Consult the following chart for individual "Service Parts Identification" label locations:
